StepWise 360 Interviewing Suspects

The StepWise 360: Suspect Interview is an advanced workshop for law enforcement professionals and other investigators who have previously completed a basic StepWise interviewing course (or equivalent). Participants will learn the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct effective suspect interviews.

This course includes information on these and other topics:

  • The 11 steps of the StepWise 360

  • Identifying and neutralizing common biases

  • Types of memory and ways to cue memory without contaminating it

  • Suspect decision-making and motivation

  • Identifying, understanding, and addressing resistance and discord

  • Strategic questions about evidence and ordering of topics

  • Gathering, analyzing, preparing evidence

  • Developing effective, semi-structured interview plans

  • Basic principles of reading people

  • Eliciting incriminating evidence

  • Presenting evidence strategically

  • Effectively debriefing interviews to maintain the integrity of the investigation and promote learning
