StepWise 360 Interviewing Children and Youth

This basic workshop will give you the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct solid, defensible, forensic interviews with children and adolescents that are tailored to each individual’s strengths and needs. 

The StepWise 360: Interviewing Child and Youth workshop is approved by the National Children’s Alliance as meeting the foundational forensic interview training requirements for Accredited Children’s Advocacy Centers.

Upon completion of this workshop, you should be able to: 

  • Identify and minimize your biases. 

  • Generate and test multiple hypotheses regarding the dynamics of a case. 

  • Prepare for and set up interviews, regardless of time constraints and location.  

  • Navigate the 11 steps of the StepWise 360 and effectively insert interview rules. 

  • Identify key developmental issues and ways to tailor interviews accordingly. 

  • Identify different types of disclosures. 

  • Differentiate key types of memory and ways to cue memory with contaminating it. 

  • Critique interviews and receive constructive feedback to enhance skills. 

 This workshop can be delivered in person or online via Zoom. In-person sessions are typically 5 days and includes one day of practice interviews with actors.  Online sessions are 8 days and includes one day of practice interviews with actors.  

 This workshop is suitable for police, mental health specialists, social workers, child protection specialists, legal professionals, and others who work with children and youth.
