Learning Outcomes

At the End of the Workshop, You Will Be Able To:

Recognize and mitigate common biases in suspect interviews to enhance interviewer objectivity;
Explain suspect decision-making and motivation;
Adapt and use the 11 steps of the StepWise 360 to conduct effective and defensible suspect interviews;
Identify and understand different types of reluctance, including discord, strong emotions, and ambivalence, and address each within a motivational framework;
Analyze and organize evidence and develop effective, semi-structured interview plans that align with the case’s unique needs and challenges;
Use advanced memory-informed techniques and strategic questions, and order topics and present events strategically, to elicit evidence to distinguish innocent from guilty suspects;
Effectively debrief interviews to maintain the integrity of the investigation and promote learning.
