Foundations of Effective Interviewing (FEI) is an interactive, downloadable, self-paced eCourse that provides you with foundational knowledge and skills to conduct interviews by covering the ABCs of interviewing: Aim, Behaviours, & Communication.

Delivery Options

Online: Learn from anywhere at your own pace with interactive eLearning sessions.

Technical Requirements for eCourses:

Good speakers or headphones to clearly hear what is said in videos.
A computer with reliable internet connection for seamless navigation through the eCourse, or download it with the Go Learn app and complete it offline.
Adobe Acrobat PDF reader to print the handouts (recommended) and other helpful resources.

Duration

8 hours (approx.)

Each short lesson builds upon the last, so move at a steady pace to optimize learning.
Learners typcially get 30 days to complete this eCourse, then one year access for reference and review.
At least 80% score on final test needed to receive a certificate. (Test can be repeated as many times as needed, but test questions will change each time).

At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

Recognize the features of effective and ineffective forensic interviews.
Explain the benefits of preparing for interviews.
Explain why choosing, covering, and ordering topics strategically is important to achieving the aim of an interview.
Identify strategies to mitigate confirmation bias.
Use interview instructions to elicit desired interviewee behaviours.
Use different types of effective verbal communication skills to build rapport and elicit information.
Demonstrate effective non-verbal communication skills to build rapport and elicit information.
